Dasha Belokrylova

  • Dasha was born in 1995 in Moscow, Russia.

  • At the age of 11 she moved to the United Kingdom, and spent five years in the english boarding schools. Even though there were so many subjects to choose from, she was the child who would always find time to draw (perhaps prioritising it over the other subjects...)

  • At 17 Dasha moved to London, where she became a student at the Fine Arts College in Hampstead. This was the official beginning of herself as an artist, where she explored painting and graphic design together with history of Art.

  • After two years of art A-Levels, Dasha joined the Wimbledon College of Arts in UAL. Here she learned the importance of philosophy behind every artwork, and explored what subject matter is interesting to her. However, after one year she decided that Wimbledon art world wasn't quite for her...

  • In 2015 Dasha started the Intensive Drawing & Painting Program in the Florence Academy of Art. During these years she learned the old master’s method of sight-size, the anatomy of a human body, and oil painting process in full depth. Studying the nude every day gave her confidence to draw believable figures from imagination, which is what she always wanted.

  • After Dasha finished the three year certificate program, she was offered a unique opportunity to stay as an artist in residence. The offer included a teaching job as well as a studio to work for one more year. This gave her enough experience to teach the way of drawing and painting to others who want to learn and improve.

  • Currently Dasha is a Principal Instructor in the Intensive Drawing Program and the Sculpture Drawing Program at the Florence Academy of Art.

  • She also gives private drawing and painting lessons and workshops.

  • Dasha’s main and ultimate goal is to become the best artist she can and she has been practicing her skills while producing paintings and drawings. She has done and continues to do private commissions as well as creating her own art, working towards making her inner voice heard in the art world...

MANIFESTO

“I have daily conversations with dragons.

My journey with every painting and drawing is to get to know the darkest most hidden parts of my subconsciousness using the universal language of oil painting.

There is something timeless in the art of oil painting. This classical tradition has been tested through centuries and is familiar to every person in the world. I believe in its perseverance and in the future I see myself as a part of the artists keeping this tradition alive.

My works are figurative. I explore the narrative of stories from mythology, folklore and fairytales of different cultures. This way I aim to understand humanity and myself as a part of it.

The image of a woman is another theme that is central in my works. The Biblical Eve, the controversial Lilith, the mysterious Sphynx and the greek goddess Diana, the everyday woman or a self-portrait — they all have a piece of me and my desire to understand myself in different roles influences this endless search for a “perfect feminine”.

I invite you to follow me into the sacred and hidden world of the Wild Human. If you listen carefully — my works will speak to you…”
